The bald eagle nest along the Merrimack in Essex County remains an active location for a pair of adult bald eagles. They are seen with greater frequency in and around the nest. According to state wildlife officials, this is a new next location for 2016 and not previously known in prior years. We will now look for clear signs that the female has laid eggs and has commenced the incubation process!

What a delight to observe a Bald Eagle in flight over the Merrimack River in Essex County in the late afternoon with cobalt blue skies and lingering late day sunlight!

A nest along the Merrimack River continues to be built up by pair of adult Bald Eagles. Looks like female getting her bearings inside the nest itself. White crown of adult just visible at top of nest outer ridge. Not yet certain that eggs have been laid!

Made a pass by the Bald Eagle nest near the Merrimack River in western Essex County this morning. The winds were out of the west at 12 MPH with gusts up to almost 20 MPH. The temp was 24 degrees with wind chill making it feel around 11 degrees. Noticed an adult approaching and then landing at the nest. Another adult was already perched on the outside ridge of the nest in a large pine tree. The approaching adult dropped off prey for other eagle and then took off in flight. This is a nesting pair that has been at this nest location for past bunch of years. Was just able to get a number of images that provided positive ID of the left leg gold band. This band was placed on the bird just before it fledged. This eagle was banded in June 2006 at North Watuppa Pond near Fall River!

What a beautiful morning with clear skies, radiant sun, and temps warming up above 32 degrees! Thought it might be nice to check on the new Bald Eagle nest along the Merrimack River in Essex County. What a terrific surprise to find two adult Bald Eagles perched proximate to the nest. they were both just basking in the sun and enjoying the morning together!

Two local birders checked in late last week in regard to a large nest. They wondered if this new nest might belong to a bald eagle family. Had a chance to check it out over the weekend. Little doubt in my mind that it was an eagle’s nest. Made a visit this morning and what a thrill to find an adult bald eagle perched right by the nest. The image was captured at quite a distance and serves as a documenting photo! A very cool find thanks to the tip from friends!!

Bald Eagles continue to be seen along the Merrimack River on the North Andover and Lawrence shorelines. With some frequency, this pair is seen together perched on a limb about 60 feet over the river. They seem very content and typically perch on the same limb in close proximity to one another!

There continues to be speculation that a pair of Bald Eagles may be nesting in the area just east of Rt. 495 along the Merrimack River. One of the biggest challenges is to locate a new nest location! Stay tuned for further updates!
