Bald Eagle adult pair: Merrimack River

November 30, 2016 in Bald Eagle

_w7i9216-001From a distance, nice looks at an adult pair of Bald Eagles this morning perched together overlooking the Merrimack River in North Andover. The eagle on the left has both a silver federal leg band and a possible orange state leg band, but too distant for any positive ID of leg bands.

Eagles seen from elevated ball field next to Essex County Correctional Center, more
commonly known to locals as, The Farm, as it is a pre-release center.

Overcast skies with light rain starting, calm wind conditions, and temps in mid-forties.

Peregrine Falcon: Woburn male pooping!

November 28, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i9164-001Another one of these stunning mornings with blue skies and bright sun!  The male peregrine was perched atop the pinnacle rock which always has a bit of whitewash.  It is located above and to the right of the nest ledge.  While observing the perched male, he let loose with a forceful stream of whitewash, adding to the existing vertical white streaks in place!

Peregrine Falcon: Woburn new female!

November 27, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i9085-001The new female was seen again late this afternoon just before official sunset time.  Late day clouds moved in this afternoon, so lighting conditions became quite a challenge!  The female was found perched on one of the south side utility poles with the double cross bars.  With less that 20 minutes until official sunset and fading light, was just able to capture this backside image.

_w7i8921-001Another bright sunny morning with cobalt blue skies, temps rising into the mid 40’s and great looks at the male Peregrine Falcon perched just below and to the west of the nest ledge.  It spent a bit of time looking around and over its shoulder, but with no birds or other creatures in sight!

Bald Eagle pair: Merrimack River, Essex County

November 17, 2016 in Bald Eagle

_w7i7344-001Had seen a pair of adult Bald Eagles in the area the day before.  They were in the distance and soaring in big wide circles.  Stopped by today to check and see if they were near a nest that had been ready for last year, but never occupied with eggs.  to my great surprise, they were both perched together right by the nest.  This gives rise to great hope that they will be successful in breeding this coming spring…..stay tuned!  One of the eagles had both federal and state leg bands.

Peregrine Falcon: Woburn male

November 17, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i7247-001The male peregrine falcon was perched and alone on Thursday morning under overcast skies and winds under 10 MPH from the north.  He was perched just to the west of the nest ledge and just taking in the sights!  It is nice to move around and photograph the peregrines from different angles and under ever changing light conditions.  So nice to be able to capture the catchlight in their eyes to show they are living breathing creatures, and in this case, always on the lookout around them!

Peregrine Falcons: Haverhill lovebirds!

November 16, 2016 in Peregrine Falcons Haverhill

_w7i7098-001Made a visit to downtown Haverhill on this morning in search of the local pair of peregrine falcons under overcast skies, light winds from the west, and temps in low 50’s.

Lo and behold, they were perched together on the weathervane atop the Post Office, next to the busy bus station. No ability to observe leg bands!
