Bald Eagle

January 27, 2012 in Nearby Landbirds

During a morning visit to scan the Merrimack River, observed this Bald Eagle cruising towards the west on the north side of the river.  It landed in a stand of trees and then flew around and up the opening above where the Spicket River spills into the Merrimack.  It was a cold dark morning, but the majesty of watching this Eagle made for a terrific start to the morning!

Peregrine landing on Verizon Tower

January 6, 2012 in Verizon Cell Tower

The Peregrines were observed late this afternoon flying around the Verizon Tower on Hampshire St.  One Peregrine was on the very top of the tower at the rounded peak.   This has been a normal perch.  The other Peregrine was perched on the right lower corner of the tower super structure.   They took turns doing aerial manueuvers and then landed on two different perches on the tower.   The top of one vertical stack pipe along the regular rooftop has also been a favorite perch.  The light was fading as sunset was at hand.  My observation post was from the parking lot south of the tower in front of the C.I.L. Company on North Canal St.
