CF2C0833-001A late afternoon visit to the Clock Tower in Lawrence, under clear skies, light winds, and 30 degree temps, provided nice looks at one of the peregrines perched on the SE side of the tower just above the clock face.

Tufted Duck: North Andover

CF2C0774-001While scanning among the wintering ducks in the NE corner of Lake Cochichewick this morning under clear skies, NW winds blowing 12+mph and gusting over 20 mph, and the wind chill at 18 degrees, observed Scaups, Ruddy Ducks, Ring-necked Ducks, Hoodies, Buffleheads, and a few Common Goldeneyes.  A wonderful treat to find the lingering Tufted Duck like a buried treasure in the group!

Peregrine: Woburn, male

CF2C0570-001Beautiful clear skies this morning with temps in the low 30’s, with winds out of the north at 15, and gusts over 20.  The male peregrine was seen in Woburn, initially in flight and then settling in on the side wall of the quarry.  The male has no leg bands.  It was making a few squawking sounds and then calmed down.

CF2C0256-001An afternoon visit to observe Woburn Peregrines and found the female perched on a favorite utility pole basking in the later afternoon sun.  Note the leg bands (73/BD) on the lower left leg. Today the male was perched on a rocky outcropping nearby, but not much interaction between the two peregrines.

CF2C0188-001The male peregrine was perched atop a rocky outcropping enjoying the views and the afternoon sun with his new mate nearby.  He watched her fly and return a number of times, but made no effort to change his position or move at all!

Bald Eagle pair: North Andover

CF2C9973-001Bald Eagles continue to be seen along the Merrimack River on the North Andover and Lawrence shorelines.  With some frequency, this pair is seen together perched on a limb about 60 feet over the river.  They seem very content and typically perch on the same limb in close proximity to one another!

CF2C9833-001The male Peregrine was seen loafing around on the NE corner of the new Balance building just above the main entrance on South Union St. and overlooking the Merrimack River.  It just worked out that the peregrine posed in a nice way to display the 6/4 leg bands providing yet another opportunity to confirm ID of male falcon.

CF2C9111-001A return visit later Saturday afternoon provided another opportunity to observe and photograph this beautiful Peregrine Falcon. Again, after 30 plus minutes of preening, something caught it’s attention and it lifted off and roared past in hot pursuit!  The bi-color leg band is  just visible on the tucked in left leg!
