Lawrence Peregrines: female at sunset!

November 1, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_w7i4326-001At this time of year, just before we hit Daylight Savings Time, it remains a nice treat to be able to make ashore visit late afternoon for a look at the peregrines, especially at the end of a sunny day with that last hour golden sunlight.  This photo was taken with about 20 minutes until sunset as the unbanded female struck a relaxed pose on the Clock Tower.  She was perched on a ledge below the clock face and on the NW corner of the building just above the next box!

Lawrence Peregrines: on the weathervane!

October 15, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_w7i0881-001During an mid-afternoon visit to the Clock Tower, had a nice surprise finding both of the Lawrence Peregrines roosting on the weathervane atop the Clock Tower.  In past year or so, this has been a very infrequent happening.  In the past the weathervane was the most popular perch location with fantastic views!

Lawrence Peregrines: female on west ledge!

October 12, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_w7i9842-001Always a treat to check on the Lawrence Peregrines on the way home in the golden-colored late day sun.  They were both perched and just hanging out at the end of the day.  This is the female on a west-facing ledge below the clock face.  The male was nearby on an upper ledge!

Lawrence Peregrine: male w/ leg band (6/4)

October 12, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_w7i9594-001Another beautiful morning in Lawrence with bright sun and blue skies. Discovered the male (leg band 6/4) perched atop the roof pediment in the SE corner of the New Balance building. Had nice, clear looks at leg bands! The male remained perched for some time just turning its head from time to time!

Lawrence Peregrines: male and female on Clock Tower

October 11, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_w7i9435-001With less than 30 minutes before sunset, under blue skies and light winds, had nice looks at male and female peregrines while they perched near one another on a NW ledge of the Clock Tower.  Finally, the banded male burst into flight in a SW direction in hot pursuit while the female remained and started a bit of cacking!

Lawrence Peregrine on weathervane!

September 21, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_w7i4406-001Always a treat to see one of the Lawrence Peregrines perched on the Ayer Mill Clock Tower weathervane.  This has been one of the most regular perch locations and afford the resident peregrines a wonderful 360 degree view of their world.  This was a late afternoon sighting under clear skies and warm temps!

Lawrence Peregrine: adult male on the weathervane!

August 30, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_W7I2079-001With wind out of the west at just under 10 MPH, 80 degrees, and clear blue skies, had a nice opportunity to observe the adult male Peregrine Falcon atop the Ayer Mill Clock Tower.  The male was seen in the late day sun perched on the back strut of the weathervane….a favorite perch over the years!

Lawrence Peregrines: adult pair

August 30, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_W7I2033-001Checked all around the Clock Tower this morning only to find both Lawrence Peregrines on the east side in the shade.  What a morning with bright cobalt blue skies, very light winds and the temperature pushing through 70 degrees.  The adult pair have been seen together quite a bit over the past week.  Lots of idle perching time with little flight action.

One of the adults was perched on the upper left ledge above the clock face on the west of the tower.  The other peregrine was perched on top of the nest box window frame.

Lawrence Peregrine: the morning ledge!

August 22, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_W7I0856-001One of the favorite morning perches is on a ledge above the west face of the Clock Tower.  A cool spot away from direct sun and rising temps.  Well hidden and easy for takeoff in hot pursuit!

Lawrence Peregrines: female perched at nest box!

August 16, 2016 in On the Clock Tower

_W7I0701-001Had a nice moment to observe both adults perching proximate to one another on the Clock Tower just after 6 pm.   The skies were overcast with light winds, light rain, 78 degrees and high humidity. The male was perched on the lateral post that sticks out from the nest box.  The bi-colored leg bands (6/4) were just barely visible. Peregrines maintain a high fidelity to the nest site and will actively defend their home site from any and all intruders.

The female was perched farther up on the NW corner of the roof on the Clock Tower!  She spent a bit of time caching away but did not move from her perch location.
