Lawrence Peregrines: adult male 6/4

September 15, 2016 in In the Nest Box

_w7i4339-001Both adult peregrines are being seen around the Clock Tower in Lawrence.  It was nice to get late afternoon looks at the adult male this afternoon as he quietly perched int he late day sun on the outer edge of the nest box.  The view angle provided just enough of a vantage point to observe and photo capture his left leg bi-colored bands showing 6/4.  This falcon is now just over 15 years old and continues his long standing residence in Lawrence with yet another very productive breeding season behind him!

Greater Yellowlegs – North Andover

September 15, 2016 in Nearby Waterbirds

_w7i4329-001The Merrimack River has been at record low water levels these past few weeks.  Along the shoreline a number of shorebirds have been seen over the past few weeks.  This morning a pair of Greater Yellowlegs were foraging among the rocky shoreline near North Main St. in North Andover!

Peregrine Falcon: female in Woburn

September 15, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i4184-001The female has taken a liking to a regular perch atop a utility pole in the SW corner of the overall parking lot.  She likes to just sit and watch with a good view of the nest ledge in the distance.  This was a stunning morning with cobble blue skies, brilliant sunshine and light winds.  She is easy to identify from her leg bands but also from her lateral chest barring which still shows as much thicker than the males chest barring!

Peregrine Falcon pair: Woburn, MA

September 14, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i3332-001Found the female peregrine in Woburn this morning as she was resting comfortably inside the nest ledge.  The male whizzed by and about a few times but she remained in place.  They have been quite a bit together near the nest ledge nest and nearby.  The are mindful of each other’s whereabouts but not overly concerned.  they tend not to squawk at each other very much during this time of the year.

Lawrence Peregrines: female in nest box!

September 13, 2016 in In the Nest Box

_w7i3170-001During a short visit to the Clock Tower this morning, discovered the female inside the nest box.  She has been seen a bit more often on the nest box perch and inside the nest box.  She will move the gravel lining on the floor of the nest box at times, and other times she just sits and gazes out to the west and enjoys the views!

_w7i3122-001Another morning visit to check out the Woburn Peregrines!  Observed the female perched on a rocky outcropping just to the west of the nest ledge.  She was partially hidden in the shade of the bright morning sun!
