Peregrine male in the sun and awaiting mate!

January 23, 2015 in Near the Clock Tower, Verizon Cell Tower

The male peregrine continues to wait patently for the return of his mate.  According to Chris Martin at NH Audubon,  this male may end up attracting another female.  Upon doing so, then should V/5 return to the nest at the Ayer Mill Clock Tower……they will just have to work things out on their own….stay tuned!

Peregrine male at Verizon Tower

January 15, 2015 in Near the Clock Tower, Verizon Cell Tower

The male peregrine falcon has been regularly seen in one of the nearby day perch locations.  This spot provides a setting out of the wind, many times with sun, and perhaps is near to warm air exhaust vents!  He awaits the return of his long time mate!

Peregrine Falcon, adult

In a late afternoon search for the Lawrence Peregrines, and with none in sight around the Clock Tower, cast my gaze to other off season perch locations.  This time of year, the peregrines may frequently be found atop the nearby Verizon Cell Tower on the opposite side of the river and NW from Clock Tower.  While heading north on Parker St (Rt. 114) and going over the bridge, noticed a perched bird on the side of the Verizon Tower building.  Parked nearby and sure enough, one of my long lost friends!  Looked like it just finished a snack and was perched just out of the wind!  What a joy to make this sighting!!

The peregrines have been seen with much less frequency over the last two weeks.  This is very normal this time of year.  The Verizon cell tower has benn a regular off season perch location.  They may perch solo or as a couple atop the tower with great visibility.  It was nice to make this sighting and to check in with one of them being in the area!

Peregrine Falcons atop Verizon Tower

The Peregrine Falcon pair have regularly made the top of the Verizon cell tower a favorite perch during the late winter months.  They have been seen here in December through the middle of February.  It’s almost like their winter cottage away from home.  Sometimes they just loaf and other times feathers are flying from a fresh catch!

Verizon Cell Tower action!

February 4, 2012 in Verizon Cell Tower

While preparing to depart Lawrence on Amesbury St. (Rt.  114) on a sunny and clear Friday afternoon, headed south towards the bridge.  Then looked over towards Pemberton Park, then back a bit over my right shoulder and up at the Verizon Cell tower building.  Two Peregrines on the cell tower caught my eye.  Had a fascinating time watching them takeoff and land on different parts of the tower.

Peregrine landing on Verizon Tower

January 6, 2012 in Verizon Cell Tower

The Peregrines were observed late this afternoon flying around the Verizon Tower on Hampshire St.  One Peregrine was on the very top of the tower at the rounded peak.   This has been a normal perch.  The other Peregrine was perched on the right lower corner of the tower super structure.   They took turns doing aerial manueuvers and then landed on two different perches on the tower.   The top of one vertical stack pipe along the regular rooftop has also been a favorite perch.  The light was fading as sunset was at hand.  My observation post was from the parking lot south of the tower in front of the C.I.L. Company on North Canal St.
