Peregrine falcon: Woburn pair

December 3, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i1227-001Made a short visit to visit the Woburn Peregrines in early afternoon under partly sunny skies and very windy conditions with huge wind gusts at 30+ MPH.  Temps in mid-forties.  Upon arrival found the male peregrine perched to the west of the nest ledge in one of the regular locations.  Heard the gentle soft call of the female, but at first unable to locate her.  Finally found her just to east of the male at almost the same height.  She called quite a few times, but softly and quietly.  Watched her a bit while preening and keeping an eye on her surroundings!

November 28, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i9164-001Another one of these stunning mornings with blue skies and bright sun!  The male peregrine was perched atop the pinnacle rock which always has a bit of whitewash.  It is located above and to the right of the nest ledge.  While observing the perched male, he let loose with a forceful stream of whitewash, adding to the existing vertical white streaks in place!

Peregrine Falcon: Woburn new female!

November 27, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i9085-001The new female was seen again late this afternoon just before official sunset time.  Late day clouds moved in this afternoon, so lighting conditions became quite a challenge!  The female was found perched on one of the south side utility poles with the double cross bars.  With less that 20 minutes until official sunset and fading light, was just able to capture this backside image.

Peregrine Falcon: Woburn male

November 17, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i7247-001The male peregrine falcon was perched and alone on Thursday morning under overcast skies and winds under 10 MPH from the north.  He was perched just to the west of the nest ledge and just taking in the sights!  It is nice to move around and photograph the peregrines from different angles and under ever changing light conditions.  So nice to be able to capture the catchlight in their eyes to show they are living breathing creatures, and in this case, always on the lookout around them!

Peregrines Woburn: perching in sun!

November 7, 2016 in Peregrine Falcon Woburn

_w7i6099-001Made a short visit to observe the Peregrine Falcons in Woburn with beautiful bright sun and clear blue skies.  Upon arrival, found well know bird photographer and celebrity author, John “GARP” Harrison on location and taking terrific photos of the peregrines!  The new female was perched in the now dormant Common Raven nest.  She seemed to not have a care int he world and remained perched for quite a while with the male nearby in the nest ledge.  The male looked down quite a few times but remained in the nest ledge preening and soaking in the bright morning sun!
