This female Great Horned Owl has been incubating eggs since late February. The owlets have recently hatched. As they grow and start to move around the nest, we will have a better view of their heads, bill, and eyes. Stay tuned to see how many owlets are in this nest!

The Great Blue Herons are back and very busy in nest building mode in colonies around Essex County. These herons nest and roost in colonies located in swamps and marshes. The majestic, deliberate flight of the Great Blue Heron is a wonderful sight to behold!

A gorgeous morning with clear skies and bright sunshine! The Woburn Peregrines were out in full force. The juvenile female continues her incessant wailing call from one her regular perch locations. the male provided her with a breakfast treat to her great delight!

Made another pass by Great Horned Owl nest #2 in the middle of the afternoon under cloudy skies and intermittent light rain. The Great Horned Owl had its head turned backwards over its left shoulder. It had been watching a pair of Great Blue Herons making a big fuss nearby. The Owl then returned to snooze mode while incubating on nest!

The juvenile female peregrine was seen this morning under bright sun and clear skies. The continues her wailing cries to attract the male’s further attention!

Another Great Horned Owl nest has been located in Essex County in another Heron Rookery. The mother has been seen on nest incubating eggs. Again, no way yet to confirm that eggs have hatched, but very likely, or very close to hatch time. Beautiful looks at Mama bear in late day light!

Finally found the Great Horned Owl in the Spicket River Heron Rookery located in Methuen, MA. A pair of Great Horned Owls have made a nest here for many years. Made many visit from the middle of February on with no luck in locating the nest for 2016. Likelyy, but not yet confirmed that the owlets have hatched. Stay tuned for more!
